The way to make money online is to adequately search every niche of the market. Finding long tail keyword phrases is a key component to searching our markets. We need to find long tail keywords because they have less competition and buyers target these keywords. Buyers have a tendency to type these phrases in because they are drilling down to exactly what they want when they are ready.

The competition is less because it is extremely difficult to target all of these keywords with information. Yes, they will do pay per click but they still have to target the keyword exactly in the ad and match the landing page with matching information for effectiveness. This is somewhat difficult to do and time consuming so they do not do it, this is currently the status for many companies.

One of the main components of the reason companies do not target long tail phrases is it takes a decent amount of these phrases to add up to an acceptable amount of volume for them. A work at home person has an advantage and can reap benefits from this because they have low overhead and can target these phrases.

We will need a keyword tool to drill down into these longer keyword phrases. One of the most common ways to do this is to find the highest volume keyword in that market. We then go and look down the list of other keywords under that keyword, which will have smaller search volumes, then we take a word under those results and place them in the keyword tool search box, instead of the main volume keyword. We will then get more results under that keyword and longer phrases. We can keep doing this replacing the prior keyword and putting in the less volume keyword to get these phrases.

Keyword tools are all different with how they can pull these phrases up. Any keyword tool that is worth anything will have this ability. This is an extremely important aspect of market research.

There are phrases that you are going to find that are not profitable. These are browsing or they are research phrases that people type in. They are not a buying keyword or phrase. We need to weed these phrases out before building any content or links to our page. We want to test these phrases before we do a bunch of work to satisfy the phrase and bring it up into the ranks of the search engines. What we should do is pay per click advertising with the ad stating the exact phrase, run that ad under the exact keyword, and build a landing page that fits that phrase exactly. We need to test this before we start doing a bunch of work on content building and link structure to satisfy the phrase. If it is not a buying phrase and there is no real good results we need to mark this down and move on.

You may decide to go ahead and build some content for it even if it turns out to be a browsing or research keyword and build a mailing list from the visitors. The mailing may interest the future buyer with an offer.

A great advantage that the make money online person has over companies are on these phrases. These can be a gold mine because these companies either do not have the ability to target these phrases exactly because there are just so many thousands, or they do not have the desire. A lot of companies just want to target the top keywords and are willing to pay the bids and build content just on them and that is it. They do not want to spend time, whereas the work at home person can make a profit from these long phrases.
